Brent Mason

After several years of chasing the ghost of Kerouac around the continent, Brent Mason returned to New Brunswick in 1992. He’s been making music and writing words ever since, with 12 albums of original music to his credit, and several awards and nominations from the ECMA and MusicNB. He’s toured Canada and the UK many times, organized festivals and events in the region, and continues to host the longest running open mic in the formerly free world at Oleary’s Pub in Saint John. He’s been referred to as “the Godfather of the Saint John music scene”

Referred to as “the Davis Adams Richards of NB songwriters” by Brent Staeben of Harvest Festival, in recent years Brent has crop-rotated to the laptop for some of his writing. He’s won awards for short stories and poetry from the Writers Federation of New Brunswick and had his work published in Riddle Fence, the Nashwaak Review, Camel and the Maritime Edit. His first novel, Midway, was released in late 2024 by Galleon Books.
